A small segment of the tribe that refused to submit to the authority of the United States moved to Canada and settled on Walpole Island in Lake St. Clair. The remaining Ottawa in Canadian territory reside on Manitoulin and Cockburn islands and along the adjacent shores of Lake Huron. A great number of Ottawa live today in a number of scattered villages and settlements in the lower peninsula of Michigan.
